There has been a shortage of subsidized fertilizer in various counties, as many farmers from different regions and beyond try to obtain it. Farmers have to queue for long hours, sometimes the whole day, to receive the cheap fertilizer.

Counties such as Trans nzoia, Bungoma and Kirinyaga have witnessed large queues of farmers waiting to receive the fertilizer.
The farmers are urging the government and the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to fast-track the process of distributing the fertilizer, so that they can catch up with the rain and planting seasons and produce enough food to avoid food insecurity in the country. Some farmers have been given numbers and others may opt to buy the fertilizer if the shortage continues.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto has assured farmers that each of them will receive the subsidized fertilizer. He has urged the area chiefs in different regions to educate farmers on the subsidized fertilizer so that farmers can register and get the fertilizer wherever they are.
