The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Cheptais Branch in Mount Elgon Constituency has been urged to expedite their investigation into allegations of a conspiracy to transport coffee crops from the Chesikaki Mecom Coffee Plant to neighboring Uganda.
This call for swift action comes two weeks after the incident took place. Miss Beatrice Nakhumicha, the Chief Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture in the Bungoma County Government, recently visited the factory in the Chesikaki area and stressed the importance of a thorough investigation by the DCI department.
She emphasized the need for charges to be pressed against the individuals involved, as there have been rumors circulating about a truck carrying over fifty sacks of coffee being seized in the Chepkube area on the Kenya-Uganda border.
In addition to Miss Nakhumicha’s plea, the Director General in the Ministry, Samson Muliro, has pointed fingers at some workers in the Bungoma County Government for spreading propaganda aimed at undermining the cooperative associations.
He has called on the DCI department to conduct a detailed investigation and apprehend those responsible for these actions. Despite these allegations, Miss Nakhumicha has highlighted that the factory is taking proactive measures to address the situation.
They are constructing a storage warehouse capable of holding over four thousand sacks of coffee and implementing a modern coffee production system, among other initiatives.
These efforts demonstrate the factory’s commitment to improving their operations and ensuring the integrity of their coffee production process.
