According to a postmortem report made public today, Denzel Omondi, a third-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), drowned to death during the anti-finance Bill rallies in Nairobi.
During the examination, pathologists at the General Kago Funeral Home in Thika discovered that 23-year-old Omondi had injuries on his legs and back of his head.
Amnesty International Kenya Executive Director Irungu Houghton revealed that Omondi’s body was found floating in the abandoned Mashinani quarries in Juja on July 6, 2024, despite the pathologists not speaking to the media.
The circumstances surrounding his death have come under scrutiny in light of this discovery.
Omondi, a third-year student studying quantity survey, was last observed demonstrating on June 25 before the National Assembly.
The next day, he was saw at the campus, but on June 27, he vanished.
Omondi’s father, James Otieno, claims that he last spoke to his son in the morning on June 27. However, later that day, his phone went off, which he assumed was normal.
Later, he would get disturbing calls alerting him of his son’s disappearance, a development that worried his family.
“Denzel was my firstborn child and had a bright future. Based on his academic performance, I don’t understand why he wasn’t given the opportunity to finish his education,” Omondi remarked.
