Kipchumba Murkomen, the nominee for Cabinet Secretary of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, has expressed regret to Kenyans for his actions during his tenure on the Roads and Transport docket.
Hours after President William Ruto again nominated him for CS, Murkomen went to X and, while pleading for forgiveness, acknowledged his previous transgressions and pledged to make amends with the second chance that seemed to have been granted to him—subject to Parliament’s confirmation.
After being publicly chastised for his extravagant lifestyle and lavish displays of wealth, he came clean about his past transgressions and pledged to be a humble leader.
“The last two weeks have been moments of deep reflection. I would like to unreservedly apologise to every Kenyan who I may have offended through my words, my deeds and my conduct, including my lifestyle, in the last two years of my public service,” he stated.
“Subject to my approval by Parliament, I pledge to serve the people of Kenya diligently, with great humility and unwavering accountability.”
In a similar vein, Murkomen expressed gratitude to the President for giving him the chance to work in the Sports docket, where he has taken Ababu Namwamba’s post.
“Honoured and grateful to have been nominated by President Ruto, as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports,” Murkomen stated.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation, Kenya.”
Prior to President Ruto dismissing his Cabinet early this month, Murkomen caused a stir in the nation by displaying pricey clothes in his collection.
The ex-CS claimed that his interview apparel, which included a Ksh. 200,000 tie, a Ksh. 80,000 shoe, a Ksh. 50,000 belt, and a Ksh. 900,000 watch, totaled an average of Ksh. 1.1 million.
His comments sparked discussion among Kenyans struggling with the high cost of living in these difficult economic times, leading some anti-government demonstrators to demand that the President dismiss his Cabinet.
He came under fire for wearing Gucci heels, imported expensive outfits, and a Hublot Classic Fusion Ceramic King Gold watch.
