The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has decided to end its strike, which began last week, following an agreement reached with the Teachers Service Commission.
By Monday, the strike had extended into its second week, resulting in several schools sending students home because of the ongoing disruptions.
The primary demands from the teachers included the full implementation of their 2021-25 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). They also sought the payment of all emoluments due for July.
Additionally, the teachers requested the release of Sh15 billion intended for their medical coverage.
The strike was further fueled by demands for a salary increment and improved working conditions.
The agreement reached today is expected to address these concerns and bring an end to the disruptions caused by the strike.
With the resolution of these issues, schools can now resume normal operations, and the impact on students will be mitigated.
