On Tuesday, authorities in Trans Nzoia carried out the exhumation of a woman’s body, which had been wrapped in a blanket and buried in a shallow grave. The grave was discovered behind a small mud house in Kaliwa village, located in Waitaluk ward.
The deceased has been identified as Alice Chemutai, a resident of Kitale town. Her identity was confirmed during the investigation, which followed after the discovery of her body in the remote area of the village.
The exhumation operation was conducted under the supervision of Trans Nzoia’s Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Paul Songok. Songok led a team of homicide detectives who were tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding Chemutai’s death.
The shallow grave in which Chemutai’s body was found suggests that the burial was intended to remain a secret, away from public view. Authorities suspect foul play due to the nature of the burial.
Following the discovery, police have arrested three suspects believed to be involved in Chemutai’s death. They are currently in police custody and are undergoing questioning to determine their level of involvement.
Detectives are now focusing on establishing the motive behind the murder. It has come to light that Chemutai might have been in a romantic relationship with one of the suspects, which could be a significant factor in the case.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews to strengthen the case. They are working to uncover the full story behind Chemutai’s death and the individuals responsible.
The Trans Nzoia police department remains committed to ensuring justice for Chemutai and bringing those involved in the crime to face the law. The case has drawn attention from the local community, with many awaiting further developments.
