Hopkins Hospital in Bugoma hosted a 7-kilometer cross-country race, as a way to encourage the public to embrace exercise for better health.
According to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Ombonye Omweri, this event is set to become an annual affair, with the primary goal of raising public awareness on the importance of maintaining good health through regular exercise.
During the race, Bildad Kosgey and Paul Tanui emerged as the first and second-place winners, respectively. Kenyan 100-meter champion Ferdinand Omanyala, also participated, alongside Bungoma leaders including Governor Kenneth Lusaka.
Additionally, Omweri urged Bungoma residents to engage in exercise, highlighting it as a key approach in combating lifestyle diseases. He emphasized the value of early detection, encouraging residents to visit the hospital for lifestyle disease screenings, noting that early diagnosis helps ensure timely treatment.
Leaders commended the Hopkins Hospital administration for organizing the event. Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, who was present, remarked that the race had opened the community’s eyes to the need for regular exercise.
