🟥Wangila Wabomba Elected Meru University Alumni Chairman in Landmark Leadership Transition.

In a pivotal moment for Meru University,Wangila Wabomba, former Chairman of the Meru University Students’ Association ( SAMU), has been elected as the new Chairman of the Meru University Alumni Association.

The election, held during the Alumni Annual General Meeting at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi, was presided over by Ambassador Dr. Muthaura,signaling the importance of this leadership transition.Wangila now assumes the role from his predecessor, Prof. Kimathi, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the alumni community.

Wangila’s election represents more than a simple leadership handover—it is a historic milestone that underscores the growing influence of young leaders in academic governance.

His appointment makes him one of the youngest individuals to chair the alumni association, a testament to his leadership abilities and commitment to the university’s progress.

Notably, Wangila’s previous tenure as student council chairman was marked by intense leadership battles. His era was one of turbulence and reform, ultimately culminating in the unprecedented dismissal of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Magambo.

This event sent ripples through the university’s governance, defining a transformative period that reshaped administrative policies and the relationship between student leadership and university management.

The alumni election was attended by high-profile dignitaries, further demonstrating the weight of the leadership transition. Among those present were Prof. James Ireri Kanya, the current Chairman of the University Council alongside Meru University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo and other influential figures within the university fraternity.

Their presence highlighted the alumni body’s evolving role in shaping the institution’s future direction.

Wangila’s leadership at the Alumni Association comes at a crucial time when universities are increasingly relying on their alumni networks to foster mentorship, drive developmental projects and strengthen institutional ties.
