🔴Ugandan Opposition Leader Dr. Kizza Besigye Sues Kenyan Government Over Alleged Illegal Deportation.
In a developing diplomatic and legal standoff, Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye has filed a lawsuit against the Government of Kenya, naming several top officials in his petition.Among those listed in the case are Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, and Attorney General Dorcas Oduor.
The case was scheduled to begin on Monday at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi but was postponed. The delay was granted to allow Attorney General Dorcas Oduor additional time to prepare and file a formal response on behalf of all the implicated officials.According to the Attorney General, the seven officials named in the petition represent separate government offices, and therefore, a consolidated response was necessary.

The State requested 21 more days to file this joint response.Representing Dr. Besigye is a legal team led by Senior Counsel Martha Karua. They maintain that their client was unlawfully arrested and deported from Kenya, in what they describe as a violation of his fundamental human rights.Dr. Besigye alleges that he was abducted on Kenyan soil and forcibly returned to Uganda, without due legal process.
His legal team argues that this amounts to a breach of both Kenyan and international law.The case is now scheduled to be heard on February 26, 2026.Meanwhile, Dr. Besigye remains in detention at Luzira Prison in Uganda, despite an order from the Supreme Court calling for his release.
