President William Ruto marked the second day of his development tour in Funyula, Busia County, with a series of transformative pledges aimed at uplifting the region.
He led the groundbreaking ceremony for new hostels at Bumbe National Polytechnic, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the education sector. The President also called for unity, urging residents to support his leadership as he eyes re-election in 2027. Accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, the President addressed concerns over the harassment of local fishermen by Ugandan security forces, promising stronger protections.
Key highlights from Ruto’s visit include:
- 1.3 billion shillings allocated to connect electricity to over 15,000 homes
- Construction of a modern stadium to boost sports and recreation
- Expansion of Nasewa Industrial Park, set to create 3,000+ jobs
- Rollout of the Affordable Housing Project
- Launch of digital hubs to benefit 180,000 youth under the Jitume program
- Facilitation of job opportunities abroad for qualified youth
The tour signals a bold push for inclusive development and youth empowerment in Busia.
