The Ministry of Education has received more than 100,000 requests from parents and learners seeking revisions to Grade 10 placements on the first day of the official seven-day review period, according to Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan Bitok.
Speaking during a school assessment visit at Naivasha Boys’ Boarding School on Tuesday, Bitok confirmed that by 4 p.m., the ministry had already processed and approved over 2,000 of the submitted requests. He noted that the review exercise was ongoing and that more applications were under consideration.“So far, we have received over 100,000 requests for revising pathways. As of 4 p.m. today, the ministry has approved over 2,000,” Bitok stated. He explained that placement reviews for Category One schools are being managed centrally from Nairobi, while those involving schools in Clusters Two to Four have been delegated to regional officers to expedite the process.
Bitok acknowledged that the system experienced temporary digital disruptions earlier in the day but assured the public that services had been fully restored at the Konza data centre, allowing the review process to continue without further interruption.“There were slight hiccups over digital detail, but it has been restored at Konza,” he said. The Principal Secretary urged parents and learners to remain patient, emphasizing that the review period officially began on Tuesday and that all applications would be addressed within the allocated timeframe.“Parents should be patient as the seven days commenced today for the revision. I am asking all of you to take up the period given,” he added.
The Ministry of Education had announced the review window on Sunday, December 21, following the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment results on December 11. The review period was introduced to address concerns raised by parents and learners dissatisfied with the initial Grade 10 placements. The KJSEA, conducted nationwide in November, marked the first national assessment under the Competency-Based Education system. The placement process is designed to align learners with appropriate senior school pathways based on their performance and interests, while also supporting national development goals and preparing students for a dynamic global job market.
