UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar is facing growing pressure from a section of Mt Kenya leaders over remarks he made during a recent political event at the Coast. The leaders accuse Omar of making comments they believe unfairly targeted their region, sparking fresh tensions within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The controversy has since triggered calls for his resignation, with several lawmakers dismissing his apology and demanding further action from the party leadership.Omar has, however, defended his remarks, saying they were made in the context of development and historical issues affecting the Coast region. In a statement, he said the remarks were “never intended to promote division, hostility, or animosity among communities.”He further added that he regretted any misunderstanding caused by his comments and extended an apology to those who felt offended.

Despite the apology, a section of Mt Kenya UDA MPs maintained that the remarks were inappropriate and have continued to push for his removal from office. The lawmakers have issued a 48-hour ultimatum, warning that they may escalate the matter through party structures if no action is taken. One of the leaders stated that “an apology is not enough,” insisting that the controversy has already damaged trust within the party.Meanwhile, ODM Chairperson has defended the broad-based government arrangement between President and opposition leader .Wanga said the cooperation is intended to promote national unity and political stability, urging leaders to focus on cohesion rather than division. The developments have now placed UDA under renewed scrutiny, with political observers closely watching how the party handles the dispute and its implications for unity within the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
