Mike Johnson has been elected as the new speaker of the US house of representatives with 220 votes from his fellow republicans on wednesday, US representative Mike Johnson was elected as house speaker ending a three week leadership vacuum that had left the chamber worthless and unable to carry out any of its basic duties.
After winning the speaker’s gavel the 51 year old said that aid for Israel will be the chambers first order business, the little known conservative from louisiana state,would be the least experienced house speaker in decades, he has supported legislations that tightens immigration and abortion restrictions, prohibits mask mandates on air planes and bars gender related surgeries and hormone treatment for transgender teams.
After Johnson’s win president Biden was asked if the republicans track record concern him ,Mike Johnson has a very solid conservative records from scorecards of right wing groups, he voted against the 2020 election, he was former house republican conference vice chairman, also former senior legal counsel for the religious liberty group ” Alliance Defense Fund” also had been serving his fourth term in the US house of representatives.
In a letter to colleagues , Johnson vowed to advance overdue spending legislation, and ensure that the US government does not shut down when the core funding expires on november 17.
