On Thursday the cabinet health secretary Susan Nakhumicha and the NHIF board led by its CEO Elijah Wachira appeared before the parliamentary health committee where the Robert Bukose led committee granted NHIF one week to release names of officers who approved fraudulent claims of 20 billion Kenyans shillings to 78 health facilities.
On his part, NHIF says internal investigations into the scandal are underway and the leadership will table a comprehensive report on the outcome in a weeks time.
Health CS Susan Nakhumicha says the transition from NHIF to the social health authority will address some of the challenges including corruption through forced links by some health facilities.
Meanwhile the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council is set to embark on a national exercise to re-categorize all health facilities in the country.
