Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna has added his voice to the growing tension between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto, accusing Gachagua of misleading Kenyans with promises of resolving deep-rooted national issues at the ballot in 2027.
Responding to Gachaguaโs recent statements at a church service in Mwikiโan event marred by chaos and an altercation involving his security detailโMiguna criticized the former DP for framing the 2027 elections as a solution to political repression and misuse of power. โItโs wrong to mislead Kenyans that such serious problems will be sorted out kwa debe in 2027,โ Miguna posted on X.

The former DP had placed blame for the church disruption squarely on President Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, claiming it was the latest in a series of orchestrated attacks against him. Urging his supporters not to retaliate, Gachagua declared his intent to challenge Ruto in the next general elections. โYou sent me goons in Limuru, in Nyeri, and now, even in church,โ he said. โYouโve reached a different level.โ

Miguna, however, dismissed this approach, insisting that violence and intimidation must be condemned outrightโregardless of political rivalries. He also questioned Gachaguaโs strategy of waiting until 2027, suggesting that plans to manipulate the electoral process were already in motion, referencing concerns raised over the ongoing IEBC recruitment.
Echoing these fears, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also cast doubt on the transparency of the IEBC selection panel, warning that the current process may undermine the principles agreed upon in the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) talks.
