.Crackdown in Kakamega: The War on Drugs and Illicit Alcohol Hits Home
The tide is turning in the battle against drugs and illicit alcohol in Kakamega! A major operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), in collaboration with the Administration Police and other agencies, has struck a heavy blow to the underground trade that has plagued Sigalagala and its surroundings.
This wasn’t just another raid; it was a targeted strike at the core of Kakamega South’s illicit economy. The operation uncovered and shut down a sprawling narcotics and alcohol hub,an epicenter of chaos and destruction. Authorities arrested John Lisulu, identified as the primary supplier of cannabis sativa, more commonly known as marijuana,to students at Sigalagala National Polytechnic. This arrest sends a clear message: no one is above the law, especially when it comes to endangering our youth.
But the crackdown didn’t stop there. Simultaneously, teams stormed five extensive brewing dens along the banks of River Yala. These dens were notorious for producing and distributing illicit brews—dangerous concoctions that threaten the health and future of countless young people. Over 5,000 liters of chang’aa—Kenya’s infamous homemade spirit—were destroyed, along with a staggering 100,000 liters of the highly potent brew called ‘Sigalagala’. One brewer was arrested, but the message was loud and clear: illegal alcohol production will not be tolerated.
After the dust settled, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa didn’t hold back. His words cut through the noise, warning traffickers and brewers that the war is far from over.”To those merchants of death who are hell-bent on destroying the future of our children, hear this clearly: we are not relenting. This war is far from over. We shall not sit and watch as our children’s future is destroyed by drugs and illicit alcohol.” He uttered.
His unwavering stance underscores the seriousness of this national push. This operation forms part of the government’s ambitious 100-Day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), a nationwide surge aimed at curbing substance abuse and restoring safety to our communities.
The directive is clear, and our execution will be ruthless. No stone will be left unturned in this mission to reclaim our communities from the scourge of addiction. We will pursue every lead, dismantle every network, and shut down every brewing den, Dr. Omerikwa declared.
The success of this operation highlights what can be achieved when agencies work together. Dr. Omerikwa expressed heartfelt gratitude to all partners, emphasizing that this is a shared fight for the soul of our nation.
This significant disruption of criminal activities in Sigalagala is a testament to what we can achieve through teamwork. We thank our partners in the National Police Service and all involved agencies for their steadfast support.
With suspects in custody and evidence mounting, the message from Sigalagala is unambiguous: law enforcement’s net is tightening. The fight against drugs and illicit alcohol is ongoing, relentless, and gaining momentum.
