The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory warning of widespread rainfall and showers across several regions of the country over the weekend, urging residents to prepare for wet conditions through Monday, December 29.
In its latest weekly forecast, the department highlighted that major towns including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Meru are expected to receive intermittent rainfall. The southern half of the country will be particularly affected, with rainfall intensity projected to increase as the weekend progresses.Marsabit County is forecast to experience strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots over the next five days. The department cautioned residents in the region to remain vigilant due to the potential impact of the high winds.In central Kenya, counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi will see cloudy mornings with light rain and sunny intervals. Afternoon and nighttime showers are also expected. Temperatures in these areas will range between 5 and 29 degrees Celsius.
Similar weather patterns are forecast for Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, where maximum temperatures could reach 32 degrees Celsius and minimums dip to 13 degrees.Along the coast, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal areas of Tana River County will experience showers throughout most of the week, except for Friday and Saturday mornings and afternoons. These regions are expected to record highs of 34 degrees Celsius and lows of 23 degrees.
In western and parts of the Rift Valley, counties including Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are forecast to receive rainfall during both day and night. Temperatures in these areas will range from 7 to 32 degrees Celsius.Meanwhile, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties will experience mostly sunny conditions during the day, with partly cloudy skies at night.
These regions are expected to see maximum temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius and minimums of 16 degrees.Turkana and Samburu counties will also remain largely dry, with sunny days and partly cloudy nights. Temperatures in these areas are forecast to mirror those in the northeastern region, with highs of 37 degrees Celsius and lows of 16 degrees.The meteorological department continues to monitor weather patterns and advises the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and strong winds.
