
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across much of the country between March 17 and March 23, 2026, with intensity expected to rise from Thursday.
According to its weekly outlook, showers will affect the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley,Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast, with some areas likely to experience isolated heavy downpours.
The forecast coincides with Kenya’s transition into the March–May long rains season, a period that typically brings increased precipitation. However, northeastern and northwestern regions are expected to remain mostly sunny and dry, though occasional showers may occur.
Temperature variations are also expected:Daytime highs above 30°C in coastal, northeastern, and northwestern areas.Nighttime lows below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley,d near Mount Kilimanjaro.
The department urged residents, farmers, and travelers to stay updated through its official platforms, including daily county forecasts and the FASTA-Ken weather app, to plan activities and take precautions.
