Leading 2027 Bungoma Gubernatorial aspirant Hon. Tim Wanyonyi has issued a stern warning against rising political intolerance following a brazen attempt by hired goons to raid his Kanduyi residence.
Speaking on Saturday at Sipala Secondary School during a harambee in aid of the families of 15 people who perished in the recent Malaha road tragedy, Wanyonyi revealed that a group of “drunk goons” attempted to storm his home.
The attackers were, however, repulsed and dispersed by his personal security detail assisted by vigilant Kanduyi villagers. The legislator, who is widely seen as the favorite to succeed the current administration in 2027, called for a shift toward issue-based politics, noting that violence is a weapon of the weak.
Turning to the somber reason for the gathering, Hon. Wanyonyi expressed his deep condolences to the families of the 15 victims who lost their lives at the Malaha junction on the Kitale-Webuye highway.
The horrific accident occurred when a trailer ploughed into a crowd that had gathered at an initial motorcycle accident scene.Losing 15 lives in a single moment is a scar on our county,” he said, as he led the fundraiser to assist with burial expenses and hospital bills.Wanyonyi took the opportunity to decry the poor state of roads and the lack of safety enforcement in the region.
He blamed the frequent carnage on unmaintained infrastructure and the “death traps” created by narrow highways and lack of signage. He urged the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to urgently address the Malaha blackspot to prevent further loss of life.
