Residents of Kimilili in Bungoma County are set to benefit from improved technical training institutions after President William Ruto pledged to elevate Matili Technical Training Institute to a National Status.
The President made the promise after the national assembly speaker Moses Wetangu’la request in Kimilili town during President Ruto’s tour in western region. “You promised us to elavate the Matili polytechnic to national Status na dawa ya deni ni kulipa,” Wetangu’la said. He also urged residents to receive the move and give president Ruto support as he delivers his promises in western region.
President Ruto assured residents that the government will work on the necessary approvals to ensure the institution is elevated, adding that strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions remains a key priority of his administration in Education.
Matili Technical Training Institute in Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, is one of the oldest technical training institutions in the region, with a history dating back to 1959 when it was started as a small vocational training centre to equip young people with basic practical skills. Over the years, the institution continued to expand as the demand for technical education increased.
Once approved, Matili Polytechnic will join other national polytechnics that is Bungoma National Polytechnic and Kisiwa National Polytechnic a move expected to boost technical skills and promote job opportunities among the youths in Bungoma county.
