Poland held their national elections on Sunday, the polish opposition party celebrated the exit poll predictions, this after they appeared to secure the majority lead by the main opposition candidate Donald Tusk’s civic platform.
Now the exit polls are pointing at the possibility of the end to the eight year nationalist rule by the Polish law and justice party.
As the reports of the outcome is confirmed by the official results, the vote will mark a massive turn around, this is as the nation has been locked in the debate with the european union on the rule of law on media freedom , migration and the LGBTQ+ rights since the PIS government came into power in 2015.
According to the exit polls, even though the ruling nationalist were ahead in the elections, the lead was without a majority ,this has raised a possibility of the liberal opposition forming a coalition government in the country.
Deep poll services suggests that tusk could take 163 seats, in the 460 parliament this combined with two smaller parties, Third way and the New left which are expected to secure 55 and 36 seats respectively.
This would give the three a majority of 248, on the other hand the PIS is predicted to bag 200 seats and the Far right party which its presidential partner is given only 12 seats by the IPSO’s support.
The 66 year old served as poland’s prime minister between 2007 and 2014 and as the european council president between 2014 and 2019 , he has promised to restore good relations with the European union and further unblock 115.7 million dollars, the EU funds froze because of disputes in the past 8 years of the PIS government.
