With the looming threat of a humanitarian catastrophe, United States and Israeli officials are in talks to find a way to deliver aid to Gaza that bypasses Hamas, the ruling party in the region.
For the past two months, Gaza has been under a total siege with Israel refusing to allow any humanitarian aid or commercial goods to enter the territory. This blockade has raised concerns from international organizations accusing Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war, which is considered a war crime.

US President Donald Trump has emphasized the need to provide aid to Gaza acknowledging the suffering of the people in the region. He highlighted the urgent need for medicine and food to address the growing crisis.Dr. Ahmad Al-Farra, the head of the pediatric department at Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza issued a stark warning about the impending health catastrophe, stating that hundreds of thousands of lives are at risk due to malnutrition.

The situation has already claimed the life of two-month-old Janan Saleh Al-Sakkafi due to malnutrition.Despite the urgent need for aid, Defense Minister Israel Katz has faced backlash for working on a mechanism to distribute humanitarian aid through civilian companies. Some extremist politicians have argued that aid should not enter Gaza as long as hostages remain in Hamas tunnels.

The World Food Programme and UNRWA are ready to provide aid to Gaza but they require Israel to lift its blockade to deliver the much-needed assistance to the population. The international community is closely monitoring the situation urging swift action to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
