The Speaker, speaking passionately at Lee Funeral Home where he led a group of lawmakers to pay their respects to the late MP, condemned the senseless act as cowardly and demanded swift justice for the perpetrators.โThis is a despicable and cowardly act that cannot go unpunished. We must ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay,โ Wetangโula asserted emphasizing the need for accountability in this tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday evening.
Furthermore, Wetangโula stressed the importance of reform within the security apparatus responsible for safeguarding Members of Parliament. He proposed a comprehensive retraining and reequipping of police officers assigned to protect lawmakers to ensure they are adequately prepared for their duties.โParliament will collaborate closely with the National Police Service to enhance the capabilities of officers assigned to protect MPs,โ Wetangโula declared, urging legislators to fully utilize their security personnel for their own safety.
The body of the late MP is set to be airlifted to Homa Bay County on Thursday, with his burial scheduled for Friday in Kachien Village, Kasipul Constituency.
The funeral is expected to attract a multitude of high-ranking dignitaries and political leaders from all corners of the country to pay their respects to the fallen hero.
