A week before the 2023 K.C.S.E examinations begins, the national assembly committee on education released a report confirming that there was indeed cases of malpractices in last year’s examinations.
The inquiry began on 27th January 2023 a week after the release of the 2022 national examination results, following a public outcry on concerns, regarding allegations of examination malpractices within the country.
The committee revealed that the DCI handled a total of 68 cases with 44 cases under investigations,17 cases pending before court,1 case with a warrant of arrest and 6 cases already finalised out of the isolated cases reported. 47 involved with the use of mobile phones,12 cases involved with written materials such as tissue papers and a single case of impersonation.
The committee considered submission from 10 counties and meetings with key stakeholders including the ministry of education,government agencies,judiciary and other players in the education sector.
As for this year’s analysis, just under a million of candidates will sit for K.C.S.E,1.4 million for K.C.P.E and 1.2 million for K.P.S.E.A as some exams have kicked on today starting with technical languages that will run all over the week starting with French Orals, German Orals, Arabic Orals, Kenya Sign Language and music practical.
