Hakim Ziyech’s goal denied Zambia from proceeding to the next round and it allowed the Atlas Lions to take a top spot in Group F. It will enter the last 16, by the 1-0 win it reprieves the hosting team a chance in the next round which will commence on Saturday.
South Africa booked their place in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations following a battling 0-0 draw against Tunisia, a result that sees the latter crash out of the tournament having finished bottom of Group E. In a game of few meaningful chances, Bafana Banafa did enough to keep the 2004 winners at bay and advance to the next round of the competition.
Namibia picked up a historic 0-0 draw against Mali to progress to the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages for the first time. Collin Benjamin’s side will now face Angola for a place in the quarter-finals. The news was not as good for Tanzania, though, as they looked to emulate Namibia’s heroics. A goalless stalemate with DR Congo meant they finished bottom of Group F.
