An Education Lobby Yesterday accused the Government over running down the Education Sector through it’s attempt to implement policies that are unrealistic and non-achievable.
The Elimu Bora working group leb by Boaz Waruku said, the Government has rushed through several policies such as the payment of Secondary School fees through e-citizen, the presidential working party on Education Reforms, new public Universities funding model, the domiciling of the Junior Secondary School in Primary schools and employment of JSS teachers on contract among others that pose a major threat to the Education Sector.
Kenya Human rights Commission Deputy Cornelius Oduor cited the high number of students who were yet to join form one, terminate as an indictment on the Government.
The Lobby Group has also taken issue with the Government’s incessant delays in releasing school capitations and other education funds, saying it has driven schools that rely on the funds for their daily needs running into debts, the group further alleged that the delay in releasing higher education funding greatly inconvenienced University and Tertiary students who were locked out of seating for their exams.
The Group now wants the Government to stop discordant roadside policy pronouncements, establish a National Education fund to ensure that all students get free and compulsory basic education, and enhanced access to Tertiary education as public education for all must be planned and implemented based on a holistic school approach.
