Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has addressed allegations questioning his responsibilities as a father.
These allegations surfaced after a prominent blogger, Cyprian Nyakundi, shared a post from a woman who claimed that Wamalwa had abandoned her and their child. According to the woman’s account, she gave birth in 2003 and has since struggled to raise her son due to Wamalwa’s absence.
In response to these accusations, Wamalwa, during a recent interview on the Iko Nini podcast, firmly denied the claims. He explained that he had indeed met with both the woman and her son. During their meeting, they discussed the possibility of conducting a DNA test to confirm paternity. Wamalwa also expressed his readiness to support the young man if the test confirmed he was the father.
Wamalwa shared that the young man belongs to Generation Z, and he is keen to avoid any unnecessary complications. He stated that he fully supports the younger generation and finds the rumors concerning his fatherhood unfortunate. He clarified that the allegations had been brought to his attention, prompting him to take action by meeting with the woman and her son earlier this year.
During their conversation, the topic of DNA testing was addressed, and Wamalwa made it clear that he had no reservations about taking responsibility if the test proved that he is the father. He emphasized his willingness to provide for the young man, refuting any claims that he was trying to evade his duties.
Wamalwa also expressed his regret over the spread of these rumors, which suggested he was a negligent father. He reiterated his commitment to supporting his children, regardless of the circumstances of their birth. He emphasized that he takes his responsibilities as a father seriously and is ready to fulfill them.
Addressing the specific accusation that he had refused to pay school fees, Wamalwa categorically denied the claim. He pointed out that this issue had never been brought up in their discussions. Nonetheless, he expressed his readiness to address the matter, should it arise, affirming his dedication to his parental duties.
Wamalwa went on to highlight that in his culture, children born outside of marriage are still recognized as one’s children. He stressed that they deserve the same level of care and support as those raised within a traditional family structure. This, he said, is a principle he upholds, ensuring that all his children receive the care they deserve.
In conclusion, Wamalwa made it clear that the rumors circulating about him being a deadbeat father are unfounded. He remains committed to his responsibilities and is open to resolving any issues regarding his role as a father in a fair and supportive manner.
