Kenyan police officers who recently returned from a peacekeeping mission in Haiti were celebrated as national heroes during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, December 12, 2025.
The officers, who formed the first contingent under the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, were recognized for their role in restoring order and reclaiming key infrastructure from armed gangs in the Caribbean nation. Their efforts led to the successful recovery of critical facilities, including Haiti’s national airport, schools, and medical centers.The team arrived back in Kenya on December 9 after completing an 18-month deployment. A day later, they were hosted for a welcome breakfast by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen at the Administrative Police Training College in Embakasi.

During the national celebrations, the officers marched proudly across the stadium, carrying the green police flag, the Kenya Police Service flag, and the Administration Police Service flag. Their appearance was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation from President William Ruto and thousands of Kenyans in attendance.The parade also paid tribute to the three officers who lost their lives during the mission. They were honoured posthumously for their bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.As the returning officers were being celebrated, a second group of 230 Kenyan police officers was deployed to Haiti on December 8 to continue the peacekeeping efforts.
The Haiti peacekeeping unit was part of a larger ceremonial procession that included the General Service Unit (GSU) and Border Patrol officers. As they passed the presidential dais, the Haiti team saluted President Ruto, symbolizing their commitment to service and national pride.
