The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has issued an official statement to dispel confusion surrounding the leadership of its Youth League, reaffirming that Johnmark Brown Ketorah remains the legitimate president.
The clarification follows the circulation of a misleading publication during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebration in Mombasa on Friday, November 14, which erroneously named political activist Samuel McOure as the Youth League President. The document, distributed to some party members, listed McOure among other individuals as holding key leadership roles, prompting questions about the party’s internal structure.
In a statement released Saturday morning, ODM firmly rejected the claims.“The President of the ODM Youth League is Honourable Johnmark Ketorah. Ignore any publication circulating containing misleading information on the same,” the party declared.Ketorah, who was appointed to the position in 2016 by the National Executive Council (NEC), has played a pivotal role in youth mobilization and party development.
His leadership was endorsed by fellow youth league members and has since been instrumental in shaping ODM’s youth engagement strategy.McOure, while recognized as an active supporter and youth mobilizer within ODM, has not held any formal leadership position. He was appointed in 2024 by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to assist in youth and student outreach but has not been elevated to executive status.
The party’s statement comes just days after ODM announced broader leadership changes, including the endorsement of Siaya Senator Oburu Onginga as party leader. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osoti were also named deputy party leaders.
