DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has firmly denied reports circulating on social media and in sections of the local press alleging that he is backing Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya to lead the opposition in the 2027 General Election.
The reports claimed that Kalonzo had been proposed as the presidential candidate, with Natembeya as his running mate.Other leaders reportedly included in the alleged opposition lineup were former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as Chief Minister, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa as National Assembly Speaker, and NARC-Kenya’s Martha Karua as Senate Speaker.
The reports further suggested that Gachagua would be allocated 50 percent of government positions in a post-election power-sharing deal.Speaking in response, Gachagua dismissed the claims as baseless and misleading, emphasizing that no such endorsements or agreements have been made. He reiterated that the opposition remains united and committed to presenting a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.“We are working together as opposition leaders to ensure we field one strong candidate.
The process of selecting that candidate may take place towards the end of next year,” Gachagua stated.President Ruto, during a recent development tour in the western region, dismissed the opposition coalition’s prospects, vowing to defeat them at the ballot. He has consistently criticized opposition leaders for what he terms a lack of clear policies and leadership direction for the country.
