Orange Democratic Movement Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to justice and accountability amid growing internal divisions following the death of former party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a public address, Sifuna emphasized that young leaders within the party are prepared to take on the mantle of leadership and uphold the core values that ODM has long championed.“It does not matter if you have built roads. If we are living in fear, we do not want those roads,” Sifuna said. “No one will remove me from the truth, and no one can silence me. Even if Cyrus has gone quiet, we will still hear his voice through justice being done.”His remarks come in the wake of mounting tensions within ODM, sparked by differing views on the future of the party’s political alignment.
Since Odinga’s passing on October 15, 2025, some members have called for a withdrawal from the broad-based government agreement that was forged between Odinga and President William Ruto.Conversely, a faction within the party has expressed continued support for the pact and has even pledged to back President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.The internal debate has raised questions about the direction of the party in the post-Odinga era, with leaders like Sifuna positioning themselves as defenders of the party’s founding principles.
