Grade Nine learners in Musanda Ward, Mumias West Constituency, have received learning materials and food donations from well-wishers in a move aimed at easing the burden facing vulnerable families under the Competency Based Curriculum system.The support package included exercise books, pens and assorted food supplies distributed to learners drawn from different schools within the ward.
Residents said the initiative will help improve school attendance and concentration among students from needy backgrounds.Speaking during the donation exercise, well-wisher Bonface Ngashira said many parents are struggling to meet the increasing education demands brought about by the CBC curriculum. He noted that community support is necessary to ensure no child is left “Ngashira further called on leaders, churches and private organizations to join hands in supporting education programmes in rural areas, saying investment in children’s education is key to community development.Another well-wisher, John Rapado, said the donation drive was inspired by the growing number of learners missing classes due to lack of basic learning materials. He emphasized that education remains the strongest tool for fighting poverty.

Parents and teachers who attended the event welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely especially as schools continue to face resource shortages. Some parents admitted they have been forced to prioritize food and other household needs over school requirements.Education stakeholders in the region have continued to raise concern over the financial pressure facing rural households under the CBC system, with many calling for increased government support and funding to public schools.Learners who benefited from the donations expressed gratitude to the well-wishers, saying the exercise books and food items will motivate them to work harder in school and pursue their academic dreams despite economic hardships.
