On Tuesday, July 16, Kahiga requested Ruto to allocate eight Cabinet Secretary positions to the Mt Kenya region.
Kahiga emphasized that the recently dismissed CSs from the area were in office due to the over 3 million votes that the Mt Kenya region contributed to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“I want to remind the president that Mt Kenya provided him with at least 3.5 million votes in the last elections, and we had eight seats with Mt Kenya representatives…such as Justin Muturi, Alice Wahome, Moses Kuria, and others.
Ruto must realize that all those seats held by Mt Kenya representatives were secured through an agreement they had with his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua,” Kahiga stated. Kahiga, a strong supporter of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, cautioned Ruto against neglecting the Mt Kenya region.
According to Kahiga, Ruto will be setting himself up for failure if he does not appoint eight CSs from the region. “If he is paying attention to me, I want to remind Ruto that those seats were rightfully ours…and if he values the people of Mt Kenya, he should heed our call. In my view, I would advise him that selecting individuals from other regions will mark the beginning of his downfall,” he continued.
The outspoken governor mentioned that the president should consider distributing the 14 slots among other regions but should refrain from reducing the number of seats previously occupied by leaders from the Mt Kenya voting bloc. “I understand that we cannot impose decisions on Ruto, however, all eight of our seats should remain unchanged. This is a warning that if Ruto intends to appoint individuals from other regions to his cabinet, he should look at the other 14 available positions but keep the eight reserved for Mt Kenya,” the governor emphasized.
