Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has intensified efforts to woo Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka into the Kenya Kwanza fold, signaling a strategic push for broader political unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking at a high-profile meeting with grassroots leaders from Kitui County, Kindiki emphasized the government’s openness to working with all leaders regardless of party affiliation, describing Kalonzo as a respected statesman whose inclusion could bolster national cohesion and development.
Despite Kindiki’s overtures, Kalonzo has remained steadfast in his opposition stance, reiterating his commitment to challenging the current administration in the next general election. He has publicly dismissed attempts by government emissaries to sway him, asserting that his political path remains firmly aligned with the opposition.
Kindiki, however, criticized the opposition’s approach, accusing them of perpetuating ethnic divisions and lacking substantive policy alternatives. He argued that Kenya’s future depends on inclusive governance and equitable development, not divisive rhetoric.
Meanwhile, in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, senior government officials rallied behind the UDA candidate in a spirited campaign. They echoed Kindiki’s sentiments, accusing opposition leaders of failing to present viable solutions to the country’s pressing challenges and instead resorting to populist complaints.
The unfolding political maneuvers suggest a calculated effort by the ruling coalition to consolidate influence across regions traditionally aligned with the opposition, with Kalonzo’s potential defection seen as a major coup. Whether these efforts bear fruit remains to be seen, but the message from Kindiki is clear: unity is the new currency of power.
