This was the situation at Nzoia sugar factory during a visit by president William Ruto in Bungoma county, where he launched several projects, the issue of Nzoia sugar factory emerged as Bumula member of Parliament Jack Wamboka, accused what he said that the government has plans to lease the Nzoia sugar factory, saying this will kill the economy of the region.
Wamboka says that Bungoma county earned Ruto votes and during his campaign, the head of state promised to revive all the sugar factories by issuing the Mambo Matatu slogan to end corruption in sugar sector, construction of the modern milling plant and payment of farmers and employees their arrears, which will complement ongoing efforts through the sugar bill, to streamline the sugar sector.
While addressing residents Wamboka delivered the Tawe message which angered government officials who were present, including president William Ruto, deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and national assembly majority leader Kimani Ichungwa among other leaders, Ichungwa accused Wamboka for failing to attend important parliamentary proceedings, that discuss issues related to Nzoia sugar factory.
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has asked leaders from the region to sit down with residents to discuss issues affecting Nzoia sugar factory, instead of accusing government plans to revive the sugar factory, Gachagua says that as the government they are looking for a lasting solution for Nzoia sugar factory.
On the other hand the head of state has promised to look for a new management that will run Nzoia sugar factory, accusing former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s rigime for selling webuye pan paper factory, which was used to benefit residents of Bungoma county.
Wamboka’s remarks comes amid after his counterpart kabuchai member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga, stated that he is not ready to accept Kenya Kwanza administration, to lease Nzoia sugar factory.
