The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing significant internal divisions following its recent collaboration with President William Ruto’s administration.
This alliance, intended to foster national unity and address pressing issues, has sparked controversy within the party and among its supporters.Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has publicly supported ODM leader Raila Odinga’s decision to work alongside President Ruto.Kajwang views this partnership as a strategic move aimed at promoting national cohesion and addressing the country’s challenges. He believes that this collaboration could pave the way for a more inclusive political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite Kajwang’s endorsement, several ODM members have expressed concerns over the alliance. Critics argue that the party’s involvement with the ruling administration undermines its role as the opposition. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been vocal in his disapproval, urging ODM members who support Ruto’s government to resign and join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) instead.
Sifuna contends that such affiliations compromise the party’s integrity and its commitment to holding the government accountable. The public reaction to ODM’s alliance with the government has been mixed. Some supporters feel betrayed, believing that the party has abandoned its core principles. Political analysts warn that this partnership could erode ODM’s credibility and weaken its position as a formidable opposition force. The alliance also raises questions about the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections and its ability to maintain a unified front.

In light of the growing tensions, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called for constructive dialogue among political leaders. Omollo emphasizes the importance of peaceful engagement to address national issues and prevent the youth from being drawn into political conflicts. He advocates for a collaborative approach to governance that prioritizes the well-being of all Kenyans.
