Kakamega Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) County Chair Fernandes Barasa has urged party members to respect the leadership and collective decisions of ODM, particularly in relation to ongoing engagement with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking in Musanda, Mumias West Sub-County, Barasa said the party had formally resolved to pursue the talks and cautioned against members publicly opposing the process. He stressed that ODM was founded to advance governance participation and not to remain in permanent opposition. The Governor emphasized that any coalition resulting from the discussions should prioritize zoning arrangements ahead of the 2027 General Election. He explained that zoning would help consolidate support in party strongholds, minimize internal competition, and strengthen overall electoral performance.
Barasa’s remarks come at a time when ODM is navigating delicate negotiations with UDA, a move he described as essential for positioning the party strategically in the country’s political landscape.
