President William Ruto is facing criticism from leaders within his own United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, highlighting tensions over key government decisions. Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Laikipia West MP Wachira Karani voiced concerns about the government's response to public protests and the proposed Ebola treatment centre in Laikipia County.
Kihika condemned violence during demonstrations, stating it disrupts emergency responses, and criticized leaders who politicize tragedies for personal gain. She lamented the moral decline in society, pointing out that some leaders were turning tragedies into opportunities rather than showing compassion.
Karani defended the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and opposed the Ebola centre, claiming residents had not been adequately consulted. He emphasized the need for the government to consider local concerns before proceeding.
While most UDA members support Ruto’s leadership, these public disagreements suggest emerging internal debates as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
