Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has defended political alliances involving the United Democratic Alliance, saying they are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the ruling party’s support base in Western Kenya.
Speaking during an interview with the Western Media Consortium, Mudavadi began by thanking residents of Malava Constituency for electing UDA candidate David Ndakwa as their Member of Parliament. The discussion grew tense when Mudavadi was asked whether he would respect a court ruling that questioned the legality of the alliance between his former party, ANC, and UDA.
He responded that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula would provide guidance on the matter, adding that he continues to encourage Western Kenya residents to rally behind the ruling party despite his leadership role in Ford Kenya. Mudavadi defended the government’s agreement with the Mulembe community, which promised 30 percent of development benefits. He said the administration is working to deliver on that commitment.
Pressed on the ongoing disputes within ODM, Mudavadi declined to comment directly, describing the situation as part of internal democratic processes among party members. His remarks highlight the delicate balance of political realignments in Western Kenya as leaders position themselves ahead of future elections.
